Keri Marquand Retires and Gerrie Garton Has a New Title

Last week Director of Student Support Services Keri Marquand shared a heartfelt message with staff throughout the district about her retirement plans at the end of the school year. She shared, “As I reflect on my 25 years in the Enumclaw School District, the best word to sum it all up is "Blessed"! I could not have joined a better team when I became an administrator.” She went on to express, “This really is an incredible place to work and I consider it a huge privilege to work with the amazing students and staff that comprise the Enumclaw School District. I'm inspired everyday by the life experiences, kindness and dedication of each person!” Keri Marquand will be missed tremendously after 25 successful years in our district as the Principal of Westwood Elementary School and Director of Student Support Services.

Superintendent Mike Nelson announced that the Director of Student Support Services role will be filled by Gerrie Garton, current Black Diamond Elementary School Principal, beginning July 1, 2019.

In an announcement to staff, Superintendent Mike Nelson shared, “It is with great excitement I announce that Gerrie Garton will be the new Director of Student Support Services. Gerrie has been an educator in our district since 2000 serving in several roles: as teacher at Sunrise Elementary, Elementary Literacy Coach and Director of Professional Development at the district office, and then principal of Black Diamond Elementary School in 2008. Before coming to the Enumclaw School District, Gerrie was a teacher in the Orting School District and a teacher and literacy coach in the Federal Way Public Schools. Gerrie has both her principal and program certificate.”

Deputy Superintendent Chris Beals will lead a three person instructional team including Gerrie Garton as Director of Student Support Services and Director of Teaching and Learning Jill Burnes to impact instruction and learning. These three leaders will be a dynamic team representing the K-12 education spectrum on a broader scale.

Gerrie will make her transition to this new role on July 1, 2019. The principal position at Black Diamond Elementary School will be posted during the week of February 12th after a process of receiving input from Black Diamond Elementary staff and parents on traits they would like to see in their next principal. It is the intent to have a person selected before spring break. The new Black Diamond Elementary principal will officially begin on July 1, 2019.”
