Seven EHS Band Students Headed To State

Contributed by Lynda Alley, EHS Band and Orchestra Director:

Not one, not two but SEVEN EHS Band Students win Regional Competition and are headed for STATE.

The Region is made up of all of Kent, Auburn, White River, and Enumclaw students who compete on a very personal level playing their prepared solos and/or ensembles for highly acclaimed judges who then give them a score. The top score is a SUPERIOR RATING (I). Once a student receives a SUPERIOR RATING, a winner is picked as the top winner or group who goes on to Central Washington University in April to compete against the other regional winners in the state. The chance to compete at this level is such an honor and we have SEVEN students representing us at STATE in April. They are:

D. Schiff, trumpet (won for his Solo)
S. Horn, tuba (won for his solo)

(The following students won for their brass quintet.)
D. Schiff, trumpet
C. Smith, trumpet
J. Welsh, french horn
A. Fernandez, trombone
N. Averill, tuba

Of the Superior Ratings, some students were chosen as 1st or 2nd alternates in case there is an opportunity for them to play at State as they were just under the winners. They are:

E. Pierce, flute (2nd alternate for her solo)
Z. Bainter, bass clarinet (2nd alternate for his solo)

M. Jirava, trumpet (2nd alternate for their trumpet trio)
C. Beinke, trumpet
J. Richenburg, trumpet

All total there were 17 solos and/or ensembles representing Enumclaw at the Band Regional Competition.
