Enumclaw Schools Launch Rachel's Challenge: A Kindness and Compassion Initiative - Updated

On September 1 more than 300 Enumclaw School District staff members and 100 community members listened to Jimmie Braden, from Rachel’s Challenge, share the story of  Rachel Scott, the first victim killed during the 1999 tragedy at Columbine High School.  Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school and community programs in America.

Our Rachel’s Challenge initiative will be presented at each of the eight schools in our school district during the month of September, reaching every student in grades K-12.   In addition, there will be two community events to share this program as described below.  If you’d like to learn more about this program and hear this powerful presentation, these community events are intended for adults and middle school or high school aged students.  These evening presentations are not targeted for elementary–aged students.  Community events are scheduled as follows:

September 20 @ Black Diamond Elementary School – 6:30 p.m.

September 22 @ Enumclaw High School Auditorium – 6:30 p.m.

We look forward to continuing to promote a culture of Kindness and Compassion throughout our schools, and as a part of the greater Enumclaw/Black Diamond community.  We hope you share in our enthusiasm for this project.  As always, if you have questions or would like more information, don’t hesitate to contact Mike Nelson at the District Office (360.802.7102).
