The STATE solo and ensemble contest took place during spring break at Central Washington University. Students from Enumclaw who went to state had to win the regional competition against students from all over Auburn, Kent, White River and surrounding areas. The following are the results from the instrumental competition.

T. Horn scored straight superiors for his performance on solo snare drum.

B. Hanks also achieved a superior rating for his solo on French horn.

The Brass Quintet made up of S. Champ on trombone, B. Hanks on French horn, C. Holtz on trumpet, R. Nielsen on trumpet and J. Taylor on String Bass not only made straight superiors at state they were invited to play at the TEN GRANDS CONCERT on May 11 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. This is a rare opportunity and to be selected for this is truly a credit to their superb performance at state. They were handpicked from the finest musicians in the state.

Also participating in the state competition were members of our string quintet. K. Wells on cello, A. Harris on Violin, M. Ballard on violin, G. Unguez on Viola and J. Taylor on String Bass.

Please join me in congratulating them for their fine performance and for being amongst those students who consistently demonstrate excellence at events across the state!
