Back

3/7/2014

It is with great excitement that we announce that Chris Beals will be the new Director of Instructional Technology and Assessment. Chris has been an administrator in our district since 1993 serving in roles as Principal at Black Diamond and Sunrise Elementary Schools, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Assuming the role as leader of the technology department, Chris is thrilled to lead the focus of integrating the regular use of technology in all classrooms for all students. Chris will also be responsible for the implementation of the Smarter Balanced Assessment which is the new online assessment that all students in the state of Washington will take in 2014 – 2015.

Chris will be working with Director of Curriculum and Instruction Terry Parker to impact instruction and learning across our system on a broader scale. They will be a dynamic team representing the K-12 education spectrum with the vast amount of Chris’ experience in K-5 and Terry’s in 6-12.

Chris will make his transition to this new role after Spring Break (April 21). Former EHS graduate and retired Principal Dave Weston will take over as interim leader of Sunrise for the remainder of the school year. The principal position at Sunrise will be posted in mid-March after a process of receiving input from Sunrise students, staff and parents on traits they would like to see in their next principal. It is the intent to have a person selected by early May. The new principal will officially begin on July 1, 2014.
