Computer Science Education Week "Hour of Code" is December 8-14

Students from all over the world will participate in an "Hour of Code" during Computer Science Education Week, December 8-14, 2014. Read Governor Insleeā€™s proclamation here.

Code.org, the sponsor of this free event, is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding computer science education and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color.

"Hour of Code" is a one-hour activity that students of all ages, Kindergarten and up can try on any computer with an internet connection. All the resources and materials are available, free of charge, on the Code.org website. These resources include self-guided tutorials with engaging features such as Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies, and video lectures from Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.

EHS is formally partnering with Code.org this year by offering a year-long coding class taught by Jeff Jacobson for 9th-12th grade students. Our high school represents a small group coming from only 11 school districts in Washington State to be part of this partnership. More advanced and A.P. Computer Science courses are slated for implementation at EHS in the future as well.
