Helping Hands of Gratitude

Back

12/10/2014

Our school district started Helping Hands six years ago to provide Thanksgiving meals for school district families in need. It is a collaborative effort spearheaded by our Human Resources Department and the high school ASB Leadership supervised by Mr. Dave Stokke.

Many students, staff and community members, including various groups contributed turkeys and fixings. The Enumclaw Rotary Club donated $600 that was used to purchase and deliver to the district canned/dry foods for these family holiday meals. Community and business leaders Travis Decker and Gary Wofford provided 40 turkeys.

Several hundred cans of vegetables, pumpkin, stuffing and roasting pans, more than needed, were donated by staff, students, PTA's and the community.

Of the 669 letters mailed to district families, 96 families responded with a request for a dinner.

On November 24, 76 families picked up dinners. The remaining 20 turkeys were donated to Plateau Outreach Ministries, and the extra cans of food and pans were distributed equally to Kiwanis Food Bank in Enumclaw, Black Diamond Community Center Food Bank and Plateau Outreach Ministries.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed money and time to purchase and deliver items, organize and put together the Thanksgiving baskets, as well as those who helped families with basket pickups and delivering the extra items to the locations listed above.
