Scott Meyer Named Westwood Elementary Principal

After a rigorous interview process that included a thorough application process, oral and written interviews, staff and community meetings, extensive reference review and a final interview with Superintendent Mike Nelson, Scott Meyer, current Assistant Principal at Ptarmigan Ridge Elementary School in the Orting School District has been named Westwood Elementary Principal. Scott replaces Keri Marquand who was principal of Westwood Elementary School for 21 years! Keri was recently named the new Director of Student Support Services for the Enumclaw School District. Scott’s official start date will be July 1, 2015.

Scott comes to Westwood Elementary School after a successful teaching experience in the Kent School District. From 2008 - 2013, Scott was an Educational Assistant (Dean of Students) and Intervention Specialist at Martin Sortun Elementary School in Kent. During his tenure at Martin Sortun, Scott and his staff were recognized multiple times as a Washington State School of Distinction for student achievement. Scott has been trained in the Lucy Calkins Writing Program and Math Expressions program, both of which are used at Westwood Elementary.

At the close of one the recommendation letters written about Scott, the author stated, "Mr. Meyer is the type of leader that I would want my own children to have at the helm of their school!" Another person wrote, "Mr. Meyer’s high expectations, coupled with excellent standards-based instruction has been a powerful combination for our building's professional development plan and has been essential in the academic success of our most challenged students and the professional growth of our teachers."

Scott is excited to join the staff at Westwood Elementary School and become an active part of our school district community.
