Congressman Reichert Visits Forensics Class

Back

3/10/2016

Lisa Horton’s Forensics class at Thunder Mountain Middle School had the pleasure of a visit from Congressman Dave Reichert today. He spoke to a very captive student audience about some of his professional experiences, and at the same time instilling an important message to always try your best. What might seem unimportant could turn out to be very important. He gave an example of a case he was assigned to where there was a home burglary with a few small items missing. He found a candy wrapper there and continued on the case which ended up with him finding the teenager responsible for 35 burglaries in the area.

This case opened up the opportunity for him to work in homicide, which then led to Congressman Reichert being selected to the King County Sheriff’s Office Green River Task force, the organization responsible for capturing Gary Ridgeway, also known as the Green River Killer. He was arrested for the murders of four women whose cases were linked to him through DNA evidence, and ultimately convicted of 49 murders.

What an exciting opportunity for these students to hear about the real life use of forensics while receiving a very inspirational message.
