EMS Students Join City's 'Students in Council' Program

EMS seventh grader Audrey Crumb and eighth grader Emma Zahourek had their first Enumclaw City Council meeting on Monday night. What a wonderful experience for them to be at the same table as many of the leaders in our community! Mr. Karkainen, Audrey Crumb and Emma Zahourek at table

Councilman Molinaro gave an overview of his vision for the new Students in Council program. After Mayor Reynolds performed their "swearing-in" ceremony, Audrey and Emma explained a few highlights about their involvement in the community (specifically High Point Village and Plateau Outreach Ministry). In addition, they both signed their commitment to the program for the next 3 months minimum.

Audrey and Emma were inspired by some of the topics mentioned and walked out of there talking about what was discussed in the meeting and what they thought about it. Mr. Karkainen, EMS leadership teacher, thinks they represented us well, and he looks forward to seeing them experience leadership in a new way with this program. Thanks for supporting Councilman Molinaro and his vision for this experience.

The Enumclaw City Council meeting video is available to watch at http://cityofenumclaw.net/CivicMedia?VID=92, and the Students in Council program goes from 2:27 - 8:35 minutes on the video.
