ESD Announces Terry Parker's Retirement And Jill Burnes' New Title

Early this week, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Terry Parker shared a heartfelt message with staff throughout the district about his retirement plans for mid 2017. He shared, ”... I will be retiring at the end of this school year. It’s the perfect time for me to transition my lifestyle so I can devote my best to my wife Lisa, my growing family of grandbabies and my own long-term wellness.” He went on to express his respect and admiration of staff and that he looks forward to “increasingly pushing away from the stuff at my desk in order to visit your classrooms and savor firsthand what I love most about what we do.” Mr. Parker will be missed tremendously after 25 successful years in the District as the Principal of Enumclaw High School followed by his tenure as Director.

Superintendent Mike Nelson announced that the Director of Curriculum and Instruction role will be filled by Jill Burnes, current Enumclaw High School Principal, beginning July 2017. Mike Nelson announced the transition plan earlier today to staff:

“It is with great excitement that I announce that Jill Burnes will be the new Director of Teaching and Learning. Jill has been an administrator in our district since 2000 serving in roles at the district office prior to becoming an administrator at Enumclaw High School in 2005. She became Principal of Enumclaw High School in 2008. Before coming to the Enumclaw School District Jill was the Director of Assessment, the Curriculum Coordinator and teacher in the Federal Way Public Schools. As a teacher, she was a national speaker for school districts and conferences on The Project Approach.

Jill will be working under the supervision of Chris Beals, Director of Technology and Assessment. Chris will lead a three person instructional team including Jill and Director of Student Support Services Keri Marquand to impact instruction and learning across our system on a broader scale. These three leaders will be a dynamic team representing the K-12 education spectrum.

Jill will make her transition to this new role on July 1, 2017. The principal position at Enumclaw High School will be posted during the week of January 23rd after a process of receiving input from Enumclaw High School students, staff and parents on traits they would like to see in their next principal. It is the intent to have a person selected by mid March. The new EHS principal will officially begin on July 1, 2017.”
