Sunrise Elementary Wins 2016 Washington Achievement Award

Sunrise Elementary is the recipient of a 2016 Washington Achievement Award, a distinguished honor from the Washington State Board of Education and Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. This year 280 schools across the state were recognized for achievement and improvement in seven categories using Washington’s Achievement Index. Sunrise Elementary garnered the award for Closing the Achievement Gap. “By lifting up our most successful schools the Washington Achievement Award shines a light on the best practices that are making that success possible,” shared OSPI on its website.

Principal Kyle Fletcher credits the hard work and dedication of his staff and parents who model these ideals for students. Fletcher elaborated, “Our commitment to individual and collective achievement often means using creative methods to make sure each student gets what he or she needs in order to achieve. The tireless work of teachers and support staff who are dedicated to success for each student is commendable as is the effort from students.”

Enumclaw School District Superintendent Mike Nelson praised the school for their “collaborative and focused efforts involving staff, students and parents to make a sustainable change resulting in positive outcomes. Their commitment to the District’s goal to eliminate the achievement gap is being recognized and celebrated statewide and I am so proud of their work.”

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction will hold a special ceremony to honor the award winners on May 3, 2017.
