Three Enumclaw Students Selected To Participate In the International Music Festival

July 27, 2006

On Monday, 40 young musicians from six of Tacoma’s Sister Cities will arrive for a week-long International Music Festival that will conclude with a public concert at the Rialto Theater. Hosted by the Tacoma-Pierce County Sisters Cities Council and the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, the musicians, along with 20 adult chaperones, will arrive July 31st and will present the concert Saturday night, August 5th at 7:00 PM. Enumclaw High School students H. Nelson (cello), S. Hicks (cello) and N. Eide (bassoon) were notified of their selection last week by the Tacoma Youth Symphony. Youth Symphony Director, Paul Elliott-Cobbs and Assistant conductor Dale Johnson will lead the local talent in collaboration with the international musicians to form a 95 piece orchestra.

The musicians from abroad are representing cities from China, Japan, Korea, Norway, South Africa, and Taiwan.  The International Music Festival took place most recently in 1993, where it was lauded as a successful and enriching experience for Tacoma as well as the 30 foreign visitors who participated in the event.
