Puyallup Spring Fair FFA Awards

Congratulations to the following students on their achievements at Spring Fair.

K Schmidt: NWJLS Walt Bergman Service Award, Martin Johnson Memorial Award

FFA Leadership

B Irwin took 1st place in the West Central Washington FFA District Extemporaneous Speaking Contest. This qualifies him for the State Competition.

He was also elected as West Central Washington FFA District 2 President for 2006-2007. District 2 reaches West of the Cascades from Seattle to Olympia including the Olympic Peninsula. Congratulations!

State contest qualifiers and State award winners will be attending the State FFA Convention at WSU in Pullman May 10-14, 2006.

K Schmidt will be receiving the State FFA Degree and Second Place in the State Agricultural Processing Proficiency Award Program.

Students Display Horticulture Expertise

Students in Mr. Parkert’s Advanced Floral Class will be preparing a display for the Point Defiance Flower and Garden Show along with five other high schools. The theme for their garden display is Country Garden. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 2 and 3 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 4.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.ptdefianceflowershow.com, through a brochure mail-in order form, or at local garden centers.

Advanced tickets may be purchased for $12 at any of these locations.

Tickets at the gate are $15.

Groups of 20 or more are $12 per person and children five and over are $5.

Two-day passes are available for $20.

New this year, children 10 and under are free on Sunday Family Day.

Proceeds from ticket sales benefit Point Defiance Park.

Band and Orchestra News

The 58th Annual Music in May Festival, held at Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon, is the oldest horn band and orchestra event in the northwest. Nine Enumclaw High School music students have been selected to perform at this year’s event. Performing with the band will be: S Knapp, flute; H Stewart, clarinet; J Eide, alto sax; R Sweem, trumpet; and J Schiff, trombone.

Performing with the orchestra will be: A Henry, violin; D Holmquist, oboe; J Mitsuyasu, clarinet; and R Beigh, trombone.
