Teacher Of The Year Nominations

May 2, 2006

During the last five weeks, the Enumclaw Area Chamber of Commerce has been receiving nominations for two Enumclaw School District representatives for the OSPI Teacher of the Year program. Our Chamber of Commerce has taken on the local leadership of this state and national process to recognize the outstanding work that takes place in all our schools by our talented staff each day.

Our school district is able to select two teachers to move forward to the regional level of the process. Patty Kindsvater, kindergarten teacher at Sunrise Elementary, and Doug Wolff, teacher in the Enumclaw Adventure School at Enumclaw High School, will be this year's representatives from our school district. Patty and Doug were selected by a community committee (put together by our Chamber of Commerce) based upon the nomination forms, both of which were submitted by parents.

The following are excerpts from their nominations:

Doug Wolff:
"By the time my son was a sophomore at EHS he had begun to disengage from school. Fortunately, at this point he entered Enumclaw Adventure School. He and a friend approached Mr. Wolff about the possibility of a video production class. He made a deal with them. If they would help him out with the knowledge, technical aspects and assist with the class - he would teach it. Everyone flourished in the environment.......He believes in kids, shows them respect and allows them to have real-life examples of how hard work and follow-through can reap great rewards."

Patty Kindsvater:
"Patty is passionate about teaching which is very obvious in her students and the parents that support her. Any child that has or will have Mrs. Kindsvater for a teacher is very lucky and has a wonderful foundation to their education. I am extremely grateful that Mrs. Kindsvater was a part of my child's life and she will always hold a special place in our hearts."

Congratulations to Patty and Doug. We will honor Patty and Doug on June 12th when we will also honor our retirees. Please join me in wishing them well through this process!!
