Magic Strings Open Enrollment Begins

We are excited to announce that Magic Strings, a self contained program at Southwood Elementary, will begin its 2008-2009 enrollment period on Monday, January 14. Magic Strings will be starting its eighth year this coming fall. Students in Magic Strings learn and practice the violin or the cello during the school day along with their regular curriculum. Most of the time, there are instruments available from the program for students to use. There is one classroom each at grades 2, 3, 4, and 5. Students typically begin in grade 2, where a new classroom is formed each year. Most students stay through grades 3, 4, and 5, but there are occasionally openings at the other levels.

Students attend Magic Strings from Southwood, Kibler, Sunrise, Westwood, and Black Diamond Elementary schools. They become Southwood students for the time they are in Magic Strings, and can use the school transportation system to come to Southwood. Siblings are also welcome to attend Southwood if families would like to consolidate their children in one school. We are only able to enroll students who want to be full time in the program at Southwood.

Magic Strings students will tour each elementary and do a short demonstration concert for all first graders, and for any other interested students. The schedule is as follows: January 30th, Sunrise Elementary 9:40, Black Diamond Elementary 11:20, and Westwood Elementary 1:40. January 31st, Kibler Elementary 1:30. Applications and brochures will be handed out at that time, and you can also request an application and brochure from the Southwood school office by calling 360-802-7370. The application is also available by clicking here. Applications are due to the Southwood office by March 7.

Magic Strings will hold its annual winter concert on February 12 at 7PM in the High School Auditorium. The concert is free and the public is invited to attend. Classroom visits are also welcome. You may call our school office to schedule a visit.
