Sunday Evening News: Maroon and Gold Day Proclamation

2.22.08

You may have heard the news about our EHS wrestlers....2008 state champions! This is the first state championship for our school district since 1989 when EHS Girls' Tennis brought home the trophy. Our wrestlers will be getting on a bus at EHS at 5:00 PM on Monday. They will receive a police escort through Cole Street. It would be wonderful to have the streets lined with fans and supporters. We will then gather next to the Enumclaw Area Chamber of Commerce Office for a short ceremony that includes congratulatory greetings from the Mayors of Enumclaw (John Wise) and Black Diamond (Howard Botts).

The reason for this early edition of the Sunday Evening News is a hope that you will help me to "spread the word" about this exciting event to honor these amazing athletes. As stated earlier, it has been nearly 20 years since our last state championship and we only have five in the history of the Enumclaw School District. I wish you all could have witnessed how this group of wrestlers came together, all giving (and needing to give) their very best in order to acquire enough points for the team victory. It was truly incredible!! Let's rally our community to carve a few minutes out of their Monday evening to give a hoot and a cheer, flash a smile and shake a hand! How can you not leave this event without feeling great about our kids, our wrestling program, our school district and our community?

At our board meeting on Monday evening, our board of directors will also be honoring our EHS wrestlers. The following proclamation will be read by Board President Cathy Dahlquist. I hope you and your school will join us in celebrating Maroon and Gold day on Tuesday, February 26, 2008.
