Principal's Message
"Building Community, One Relationship at a Time"
Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility are three words that are used to describe the positive attributes of students at Thunder Mountain Middle School. Together, our staff and students selected these three principles to guide us together in our day to day activities. At Thunder Mountain, we are extremely proud of our middle school, our program and our staff; and we are looking forward to working with you!
Our staff has worked very hard to place special emphasis on the development of meaningful relationships- between students, parents, staff and our community. Interdisciplinary Teaming, Personalized learning communities that we refer to as our "Neighborhoods," Exploratory classes which provide opportunities for students to try new activities and the creation of an Extra-curricular program which involve students in grades six through eight, all play a big part of the programs that are offered to our students at Thunder Mountain.
As evidenced by our school WASL scores, high expectations of achievement and continued efforts towards improvement are a priority at Thunder Mountain. Our students and staff have continued to work very hard to demonstrate these gains in grades 6-8. Our teachers continue to meet regularly for the purpose of discussing student achievement and have continued to collaborate and implement a variety of successful teaching strategies.
In order to carry out our theme of developing positive relationships within our school, students at Thunder Mountain have been placed on Interdisciplinary Learning Teams. These teams provide students with smaller; more personalized learning communities that have proven to be very beneficial in meeting the needs of our middle level students. Students at Thunder Mountain also have the option of taking band, orchestra, choir, or our exploratory arts classes which feature courses such as: Keyboarding, Graphic Design, Home Economics and Steel Drums.
This past year, we have worked very hard to establish a brand new Parent, Teacher, Student Organization (PTSO) to help increase our parental involvement during the very critical adolescent years. If you would like to join our PTSO, our organization meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 P.M. in the Thunder Mountain Library. Our families and community members work very hard to make our school a great place to work, learn, and grow.
As the newest building in the Enumclaw School District, we take great pride in our school and know that you will too. We are excited to welcome you to Thunder Mountain Middle School and look forward to building our community together- one relationship at a time!
