All descriptors must be evident.
Writing Characteristics
- Contains most high frequency words spelled correctly.
- Contains the substance (meaningful thoughts) of several sentences on a related topic even though it may not be accurately punctuated.
- Simple sentences are usually punctuated correctly.
- More varied and complex sentence structures are included (including conjunctions, prepositional phrases, and/or relative clauses).
- Beginning words in sentences, names, and the pronoun “I” are usually capitalized.
- Lower case letters are used appropriately.
- Subject verb agreement used most of the time.
- Words are spaced appropriately.
Writer Behaviors
- Uses larger correctly spelled vocabulary; may use phonetic spelling for advanced words.
- Selects a wide range of topics for writing.
