Writing Characteristics
- Writing usually represents sensible beginning and ending consonants.
- Written left to right and top to bottom in a linear format.
- Contains some high frequency words spelled correctly.
- Contains the substance (meaningful thoughts) of a few sentences on a related topic even though it may not be accurately punctuated.
- Writing contains spaces between words. At this level, spacing may vary.
Writer Behaviors
- Uses details and expresses individuality in writing.
** To bridge to the next phase, the child should move away from
patterned writing to using varied sentence structures even though
they may not be accurately punctuated.
