English Language Development
The Enumclaw School District Multilingual Learner Program (MLL) serves kindergarten through 12th grade students who qualify for English language development support. Students are identified for language screening at registration when families complete the federal Home Language Survey. Identified students are then screened with the state required language assessment. The MLL program provides English language instruction and academic support to qualifying students within the school day. Support may include pull-out direct language instruction, sheltered instruction in a homeroom setting, or support within the classroom. Multilingual students are assessed annually during the Spring and those students that reach proficiency are then transitioned out of the program and monitored for two years. The Multilingual Learner Program honors the unique talents and skills of all our students. We believe multilingualism is an asset and encourage our students to develop both their native language and English language skills.
