This year, the Middle School Highly Capable (HiCap) Program challenged students to participate in a “Leave Your Legacy” project. The culminating testament to their hard work and creativity was the publication of an original short story, poem, or children’s story.

This collection was created authentically and entirely by the students who participated in the “Leave Your Legacy” challenge. The adults involved served only as coaches, offering guidance while honoring the students’ ownership of their work and voice throughout the entire process. This project encouraged students not only to dream and create, but also to persevere through the difficult stages of revision, vulnerability, and final publication.

"Each piece represents more than a story or poem—it is a reflection of who these students are and how they see the world. It is their hope that this collection leaves a lasting imprint, offering moments of wonder, connection, and perhaps even a bit of wisdom to those who turn its pages."

"We are incredibly proud of these students for their grit, bravery, creativity, and determination to put themselves and their words out into the world. Their voices matter, and this accomplishment is truly something to celebrate!" said Nicole Webb, ESD Highly Capable Program Facilitator.
