The Enumclaw School District celebrated a meaningful milestone on Friday, June 26, 2026, with the groundbreaking ceremony for Evergreen Elementary, the district’s newest elementary school in the growing Ten Trails area of Black Diamond.
Students, families, staff, community members, local partners, and elected officials gathered at the future school site on Ten Trails Parkway SE to mark the beginning of construction on a project that has been years in the making. Evergreen Elementary represents an important step forward in the district’s ongoing commitment to serving students and families in the Enumclaw School District.
For more than a decade, the Enumclaw School District has worked in partnership with the City of Black Diamond and Oakpointe to plan for future school facilities and enrollment growth in the Ten Trails area. Through that long-standing partnership, and following an amended agreement approved by the Enumclaw School Board, the district is able to move forward with construction of the new elementary school without a bond or tax increase.
The school is being funded through a formal agreement between the Enumclaw School District, the City of Black Diamond, and Oakpointe. Under the approved amendment, the district released its interest in a large school site within the Master Planned Development in exchange for $40 million to build the new elementary school. In addition, Oakpointe will finance up to $25 million, which will be repaid only through future mitigation fees owed to the district. If future mitigation fees total less than $25 million, any remaining balance will be discharged, and the district will not be required to repay it. Oakpointe will also provide $3 million to construct two play fields.
In total, the district will receive up to $68 million through the use of existing property assets and mitigation fee credits to support the construction of Evergreen Elementary and related play fields. This funding model allows the district to responsibly address school capacity needs in Black Diamond while avoiding new taxpayer funding and preserving local control of the project.
Evergreen Elementary will serve students and families in the Ten Trails area as part of the broader Enumclaw School District community. The school is scheduled to open in fall 2027.
The new school was recently named Evergreen Elementary following a community-centered process led by the Elementary #6 Naming Committee and approved unanimously by the Enumclaw School District Board of Directors. The name reflects the natural surroundings of the school site, including the wetlands and trees behind the property, while connecting the school’s identity to both the Ten Trails community and the greater Enumclaw School District.
The Board also selected Trailblazers as the school mascot, representing growth, belonging, stewardship, learning, helping, and problem-solving.
Evergreen Elementary’s planning principal, Nicole Tronvig, will help develop the school’s identity, student and family experience, staff onboarding, learning spaces, and community partnerships as the district prepares for the school’s opening.
The groundbreaking marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Evergreen Elementary and the families it will serve. The Enumclaw School District is grateful for the collaboration, planning, and community partnership that made this milestone possible.
