The district has set a specific attendance goal this year: to meet Washington’s statewide goal of 81% of students attending regularly in 2026–27. Enumclaw School District’s rate currently stands at about 76%, with elementary schools above the state average and secondary schools below.
The state defines regular attendance as missing no more than two days per month, which translates to attending school at least 90% of the time. Research shows that regular attendance is a key indicator of student academic achievement.
“With 180 days in the school year, every day is valuable,” said Superintendent Mark Wenzel. “We see a strong connection between attendance, grades and graduation rates. We value our partnership with parents and families in helping students attend regularly to reach this goal.”
What Families Can Do
Check the numbers.
Absences add up a day at a time, and most of us are surprised by the total. A quick check of Family Access once a month can help families spot patterns early and keep attendance on track.
Build routines that support attendance.
Consistent school-night bedtimes, phones charging outside the bedroom, and getting clothes, backpacks and lunches ready the night before can make mornings easier for the whole family.
Plan appointments and travel around school when possible.
We know some absences are unavoidable. When there’s flexibility, scheduling appointments, vacations and other activities outside the school day helps students stay connected to their learning.
Let us know if something’s getting in the way.
Anxiety, a tough class, transportation challenges or a hard stretch at home can all contribute to attendance struggles, and they’re much easier to address early. A call to the school counselor is a good first step.
