BLACK DIAMOND, WA — Construction on Evergreen Elementary, the Enumclaw School District's newest elementary school in the growing Ten Trails area of Black Diamond, continues to move forward on schedule. Since the district celebrated the June 2026 groundbreaking, crews have moved from site preparation and foundation work to concrete slabs and wood framing, marking the beginning of the most visible phase of the project.
Laying the groundwork
Much of the work completed this summer has been underground and out of sight, but everything built afterward depends on it. Crews leveled and graded the property to create a stable, well-drained building site. They installed the storm drainage system, which collects and manages rainwater runoff, and connected the sewer and water lines that will serve the school. Fire hydrants have been placed, and the future parking areas have been prepared. With this groundwork largely complete, the focus has shifted to the school building itself.
Building progress at a glance
• Foundations and underground utilities: Before a concrete floor can be poured, the electrical and plumbing lines that run beneath it must be in place. Crews have spent much of the summer completing this critical work in preparation for the pouring of the slabs.
• Concrete slabs: The concrete slabs are currently being poured.
• Framing and vertical construction: Rather than building the walls on the slab, crews are pre-building the panels on-site. This approach, known as panelization, has allowed crews to build many of the first-floor walls already. Once the slab is poured, they simply lift them into place. In the coming weeks, families and neighbors should start to see Evergreen Elementary take shape.
Building with our community
Engaging the local workforce and supporting community involvement were key commitments of the design-build team of Korsmo Construction and TCF Architecture when it was selected for the project, and those commitments are visible on site today. Local and family-owned subcontractors, including Big Mountain Enterprises and Haul It All Pros, are contributing directly to the work, and many of the people on site live and work in the communities the new school will serve.
Steady progress on the project reflects close collaboration among the district, the design team, the contractor, and trade partners. Regular planning and communication help the team sequence the work efficiently, address questions early, and keep safety a priority on site. That collaboration is guided by a shared goal: a safe, welcoming school where Evergreen's first Trailblazers will learn, grow, and help shape the traditions of their new school community.
What's next
Over the coming months, construction will focus on raising the building's structure and enclosing it with walls, roofing, and windows ahead of the wetter winter months. Enclosing the building, something the team calls “dry-in,” protects the interior so that work on its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and eventually its classrooms and finishes, can continue.
The district will continue to share construction updates as the project moves forward. Families can follow along on the Evergreen Elementary Project page on the district website and on the district's social media channels.
