Join Us for Teen Wellness Night

We want to invite our families and students to join us on September 28th at Glacier Middle School to open a conversation about the health and safety of our students. The White River School District and Enumclaw School District have teamed up to host a series of Wellness events this year, beginning with our first event on the 28th. Our goal is to build community awareness and forge partnerships with families, community-based organizations, family resource providers, and agency partners in support of our collective commitment to the health and safety of our kids. We will have light snacks and refreshments available as well as resources that include mental health, family support, addiction and treatment, and other agencies focused on supporting our youth and their families.

Our keynote speaker for this evening is a nationally recognized voice when it comes to social media and the impact it is having on our teenagers. He is a school resource officer in Meridian, Idaho and has worked with thousands of secondary students over the course of his career. His message serves as a call to action for parents to understand the risks that social media represents for our kids. The negative impacts of social media are well-documented such as the increased likelihood of mental health issues that include anxiety, depression, and isolation to internet safety and the dangers of cyberbullying and internet predators. Officer Gomez will share tips and tricks parents can use to support their kids and help them navigate the digital world in a healthier way. Finally, Officer Gomez will make himself available for a question and answer period following his keynote. His message is primarily directed at teens and their parents, but if you are considering allowing your child to have access to social media, we would love for you to join us.

Please mark your calendars for September 28th and be on the lookout for additional information from your building principal. Our hope is that we can start a conversation that will help us move forward in our collective efforts to support our kids. They deserve nothing less, and these two communities have demonstrated that when it comes to our young people, we truly are all HORNETS.
