OUR DISTRICT

Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains lie the beautiful towns of Enumclaw and Black Diamond. In many respects, these communities could be throwbacks to what most Americans might consider ideal towns of the 1950/'60s. Unlike many other cities in the Puget Sound area, Enumclaw and Black Diamond have kept their small-town flavor and community commitment to educational excellence and civic involvement.

Enumclaw and Black Diamond are the gateway to the north entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park from Highway 410, and you can access Paradise, near Mt. Rainier, through beautiful Steven's Canyon during the summer months. Both cities are within an hour of many diverse activities including skiing, hiking, beaches, large city culture, and professional sports. There are numerous local facilities for golf, tennis, and youth sports. Nearby Crystal Mountain is a first-class ski area with beautiful scenery to enjoy in both winter and summer.

Enumclaw School District #216 was organized in 1887 and provides nearly 120 years of education opportunities for students living within the boundaries of some 456 square miles. As of November 2023, our district has a current student population of 4,225, who are served in five elementary schools (Black Diamond, Byron Kibler, Southwood, Sunrise, and Westwood), two middle schools (Enumclaw and Thunder Mountain), Enumclaw High School and our Birth to Five Center. Included in the district are the cities of Enumclaw, Black Diamond, and several unincorporated communities.

Located in southeastern King County, the Enumclaw School District is bordered on the north by the Tahoma School District, on the northwest by the Kent School District, on the west by the Auburn School District, and on the south by the Pierce County line, and the White River School District.

Continuous community support for education in Enumclaw schools has provided the financial basis necessary for quality education. Emphasis on strong academic programs and equally effective vocational opportunities has long been a priority of staff members, administrators, and the Enumclaw School District Board of Directors. The maintenance of a quality support staff, people who are essential to effective school management, continues to ensure excellent services to Enumclaw district students.

Over the years, thoughtful decisions about new additions to the curriculum and other special vital programs and activities have allowed the Enumclaw School District to provide up-to-date educational offerings that encourage students to gain well-developed skills and knowledge that help Inspiring students to learn, lead and impact their community and the world.

Providing quality education in an environment conducive to obtaining the maximum benefit from instructional opportunities is important to parents, students, and staff. Today's educational programs in the Enumclaw School District contribute to the development of responsible citizens ready to take on their roles as future leaders.
