Public Service Announcement: Beginning at 11:20 a.m. today, it is expected that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide test of its Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts. The test will send emergency alert messages and/or sounds to radios, televisions. and consumer cell phones. While this emergency test has nothing to do with the schools, due to the timing, it may disrupt the classroom environment. We are broadening the reach of FEMA's plan for nationwide testing so that our staff, students, and parents are aware that this test is happening. All wireless phones should receive the message only once. The following can be expected from the nationwide WEA test: Beginning at approximately 11:20 a.m., cell towers will broadcast the test for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message. For consumers, the message that appears on their phones will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” To help ensure that these alerts are accessible to the entire public, including people with disabilities, the alerts are accompanied by a unique tone and vibration. For more information visit: https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20230803/fema-and-fcc-plan-nationwide-emergency-alert-test-oct-4-2023?fbclid=IwAR1v7I4xOezekalT1TBqqTucrt9p09VS9RYC3YFDiS5ys7rLIs4G-XtBn2k
